Brian Otieno is a Kenyan photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Nairobi. He was raised in Kibera, where he has been documenting the everyday since 2013 through his ongoing project KiberaStories.
His work is driven by a commitment to look beyond the chaotic appearance of his hometown — to depict a fuller spectrum of life from the social, cultural, political and environmental angles that international news rarely captures.

A regular contributor to Agence France-Presse and Everyday Africa, Brian’s photographs have appeared in The New York Times, Al Jazeera, BBC, Der Spiegel and Roads & Kingdoms.
He has exhibited in Paris, Kampala, Lisbon, New York and London, and is a recipient of the Reuters Photojournalism Grant and the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund.
